Region's Leaders Convene for Coriell's What's in your Genes? Event

04/2014

CAMDEN, NJ – The Philadelphia region's most enterprising business, government and healthcare leaders convened at the Union League of Philadelphia Thursday, April 24 to commemorate the remarkable scientific advances taking place at Coriell Institute.

What's In Your Genes? is a celebration of personalized medicine, the fast-moving field of scientific interest that aims to utilize an individual's genetic information to optimize healthcare delivery.

Dr. Michael Christman, president and CEO of the Institute, welcomed an elite group of the most influential figures in Greater Philadelphia to the Union League for an opportunity to learn more about the groundbreaking Coriell Personalized Medicine Collaborative (CPMC), a longitudinal research study examining the utility of genetic information in the clinical setting.

The event also acknowledged three exceptional honorees for their commitments to promoting innovative scientific exploration: Harvard's Dr. Robert Green, an established authority on personal genomics; Dr. Greg Downing, an important policy advocate with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services; and Mr. Charles Lord, an accomplished entrepreneur and longtime ambassador for the Institute.

"Coriell has operated as an internationally renowned pioneer of essential biomedical research while stationed in the heart of Camden for more than 60 years," says Dr. Christman. "While we continue to make incredible progress with the CPMC study and build relationships with organizations around the country, like the United States Air Force and Stanford University, we have always made it a priority to stay connected and grounded to our community."

"As much as What's In Your Genes? focuses on the many successes of Coriell, it's equally a celebration of the network of supporters and advocates who have sustained our non-profit mission for six decades strong," says Dr. Christman.

Primary event sponsors include the MD Anderson Cancer Center at Cooper, Archer & Greiner, P.C., Glenmede Trust Co., CareKinesis, McCausland, Keen & Buckman, Homan Automotive, Conner Strong & Buckelew, and FreedomPay.
