36th Annual Coriell Institute Science Fair

03/2017

When:  March 18, 2017 - Schedule below

Where:  Camden County College, Blackwood Campus, Papiano Gymnasium / 200 College Dr, Blackwood, NJ 08012

The Coriell Institute for Medical Research invites you to cover the 36th Annual Coriell Institute Science Fair on Saturday, March 18th at Camden County College’s Blackwood campus.

The highlight of this year’s Science Fair will be the “Chromatin Challenge,” held in recognition of upcoming DNA Day. The event will encourage fair participants to dive into chromatin, the structure that allows a sequence of DNA (which would be more than six feet long if straightened out!) to fit in a tiny cell. To explore the function of chromatin, participants will be given a piece of string about as long as a DNA sequence and they’ll have to think creatively to fit their string into a small gel pill capsule. This will take place at noon.

The annual Science Fair continues Coriell’s long legacy of science stewardship in South Jersey and is the longest running fair of its kind in the region. The competition is open to all Camden, Gloucester and Burlington County students, grades 6 through 12, who have participated in their local school science fair and have registered with Coriell. Students can win certificates, cash prizes, and scholarships and can advance to the Delaware Valley Regional Science Fair and the International Science and Engineering Fair.
