Species Homo sapiens
Common Name Human
Remarks Line HIAS-117C. The iliac artery was removed from a braindead, heartbeating cadaver, organ donor on 11/16/88. The donor died from a motor vehicle accident and had no known diseases. The culture was initiated by explantation of tissue dissected from the medial layer. The culture tested positive for alpha-smooth muscle actin (immunofluorescence assay). The culture was grown on gelatin-coated flasks, and the medium was supplemented with 0.02 mg/ml ECGS and 0.05 mg/ml heparin. Cells were frozen in growth medium containing 7.5% polyvinylpyrrolidinone and 5% DMSO.
