Remarks Angus breed. The age of the donor is estimated. The thoracic aorta was removed immediately post-mortem on 10/22/85. The culture was initiated from cells released from the lumen of the vessel by collagenase digestion. The cell morphology is polygonal. The karyotype is 60,XY; normal diploid male. The culture tested positive for the endothelial cell-specific von Willebrand factor and negative for alpha-smooth muscle actin (immunofluorescence assays). The first and second passage cells were propagated in medium supplemented with horse plasma-derived serum and heparin (0.1mg/ ml) on gelatin-coated flasks. The culture was grown on gelatin-coated flasks and the medium was supplemented with ECGS (0.02 mg/ml) and heparin (0.05 mg/ml). Culture medium: AMMC 20U with supplements. For lifespan determination this cell line was cultured in Ham's F12 medium with 10% inactivated fetal bovine serum. A smooth muscle cell culture from this calf is AG08504A. This cell line will only be shipped frozen. The legacy karyotype description shown in this Remark may not be representative of the current available product.
