Repository NIA Aging Cell Culture Repository
Subcollection Animals
Biopsy Source Aorta, thoracic
Cell Type Endothelial
Tissue Type Artery
Transformant Untransformed
Sample Source Endothelial from Aorta, thoracic
Relation to Proband proband
Confirmation Clinical summary/Case history
ISCN 60,XY
Species Bos taurus
Common Name cow
Remarks Holstein breed. The culture was initiated on 4/25/79 using cells released by collagenase digestion from the lumen of a thoracic aorta segment obtained from a fetus of approximately 18 weeks gestational age. The culture was passaged several times in 5% plasma-derived serum to prevent overgrowth by smooth muscle cells. The cell morphology is polygonal. The karyotype is 60,XY; normal diploid male. The culture tested negative for presence of bovine viruses BVD, PI-3, and BHV-1. Same culture at an earlier passage is AG07680B. The legacy karyotype description shown in this Remark may not be representative of the current available product.
