Research Analyst, Coriell Personalized Medicine Collaborative
“The Coriell Personalized Medicine Collaborative leads the way in matching health outcomes to our individual genetic profiles – an important step in personalizing our medical care.”
Alan Herbert, MBChB, PhD, serves as a research analyst at Coriell Institute for the Coriell Personalized Medicine Collaborative® (CPMC®), a research study that aims to evaluate the utility of using the knowledge of genetics in medicine. As a member of the CPMC’s Risk Reporting group Alan is responsible for reviewing worldwide scientific and clinical research publications to identify genetic variants associated with both the risk of disease as well as variability in drug response; and for preparing submissions to the CPMC’s Informed Cohort Oversight Board and Pharmacogenomics Advisory Group.
Alan is also an associate professor at Boston University in the Department of Pharmacology. In his role at Boston University, Alan has published many papers on his analysis of data gathered from the renowned Framingham Heart Study; he is currently working on understanding the role of genetic alterations during the development of complex diseases.
After receiving his undergraduate degree in human biology from the University of Auckland, Alan continued on to receive his MBChB in medicine. Alan subsequently earned his doctorate degree in molecular immunology from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology where he studied alternative DNA conformations and its effects on editing of genetic readout.
