How to Participate

Participation in the Coriell Institute Science Fair is managed through the Fair Web Portal. The portal is designed to streamline the registration and submission process. With just a few simple clicks, you'll be able to create an account and download all the required forms.

Create an Account

Create and verify your Fair Web Portal account.

  • Start by clicking here to visit the Fair Web Portal. First time users should click the "Create Account" button.
  • Follow the prompts and enter a valid email address and password. You have the option to create your account as a Teacher/Sponsor, or as a Student.
  • Check the email address you registered – you will receive the account verification and registration link via email. Click the link provided and log into the Fair Web Portal to activate your account!

You'll provide basic information (name, phone number, email, school address) and establish whether your project is an individual or team effort.

  • Once you've logged in, you'll need to register your project. Verify the school information is entered correctly. Students are also required to enter a valid email address.
  • If the project is an individual effort, click the "Save & Create Project" button. If the project is a team effort, you can click "Add A Team Member" and the system will provide additional fields for you to add team members.

ISEF Forms

Download, complete, and submit all of the necessary ISEF Forms.

  • You'll next be directed to the ISEF Forms tab. Follow the instructions at the top of the page to correctly complete the necessary forms. All projects are minimally required to include: Checklist for Adult Sponsor (Form 1), Student Checklist (Form 1A), Research Plan Form, and the Approval Form (1B).
  • To access a form, click the appropriate form name and then the "Download Form" button. You'll open up an interactive PDF that will permit you to fill in the necessary information. Save the form to your desktop, complete, save again, and then upload using the "Upload Completed Form" button. For help filling out any of the Coriell and ISEF forms, please visit our Help With Forms and Rules page. Note: For forms requiring signatures, print your documents and have them signed. Then scan the signed forms to your computer. You can also take a photo of the signed document and upload as an image file.
  • Mac Users: Due to compatibility issues with the Mac OS X 'Preview' application, anyone working on a Mac will need to download Adobe Acrobat Reader to successfully complete the science fair forms. Adobe Reader is free, PDF-management software and is easily installed. Please click here to acquire the latest version.
  • When a student's project involves either human participants, vertebrae animals, potentially hazardous biological agents, or hazardous chemicals, activities, or devices, additional forms and approvals are required. For help determining if your student's projects contain one of these elements, you can consult the ISEF Wizard, a tool that will help you fill out the necessary forms.
  • If a project includes one of these elements, a scientific review committee would have to approve the project. If a school does not have a scientific review committee, Coriell would be able to approve the student's work.
  • Once all of your forms have been completed and uploaded, click "Submit My Forms" at the bottom of the page. Note: The maximum file size is 2MB. Your forms and project registration will be final.

Project Approval

Visit this tab to check the updated status of your submission.

  • Now that you've completed all the required forms, we will review your documents. You can check the status of your submission from the Project Approval tab.
  • If an action is required (a form is completed incorrectly or missing) you will be notified on this page when you log in and also receive an email alert to inform you of the project status change.

Fair Entry

When you finish your project, you will decide whether or not to present your project tri-fold board at the Coriell Science Fair.

  • If you want to enter the Fair, you must fill out the fields on the Fair Entry tab. You'll need to include the project title and the research start and end dates. You'll also be prompted to select a Project Category (click the "Help me pick the right category" link for a detailed overview).
  • Click "Submit Fair Entry" at the bottom of the page to confirm your participation in the Fair.

Complete your project abstract if you plan to attend the Fair.

  • The final step, if you plan to attend the Fair, is to submit an abstract. Type your abstract in the field provided on the page. If you need to return at a later time to finish, you can click "Save Changes" – your data will be saved and available when you log in next.
  • Once your abstract is complete, click the "Submit Abstract" button at the bottom of the page. You'll automatically be redirected to the Project Approval page to receive confirmation that the process is completed.
  • Return to the Abstract tab to print copies. We recommend that you print 5-10 copies to share with judges.

See you at the Fair!
