The Affymetrix GeneChip system is a commercial platform that enables rapid, reproducible, and accurate microarray analysis on a genome-wide scale. The Affymetrix GeneChip platform can be used for gene expression profiling, genotype analysis, copy number analysis, gene regulation analysis, and resequencing: really anything that involves sequence-specific nucleic-acid hybridization.
Affymetrix GeneChip™ System for 3’-IVT Gene Based Expression Analysis
The Affymetrix GeneChip system is a commercial microarray platform that allows whole genome gene expression analysis for a wide variety of experimental organisms (animal, plant, and bacterial). This system has three major advantages over other array systems:
- It is easy to get rapid results.
- It has the capability to monitor the expression of every gene in the genome.
- It is one of the most widely-used commercial microarray platforms.
Affymetrix GeneChip™ System for Exon Based Expression Analysis
The Affymetrix GeneChip Exon and Gene Array systems provide, for the first time, exon-level expression profiling at the whole-genome scale on a single array. The Exon array contains more than 1 million exon clusters within known and predicted transcribed regions of the genome. This new generation of GeneChip allows the investigation of differential expression, using signals generated across the entire transcript, not just the 3’-end. In addition, the expression levels of individual exons can be used to uncover and document alternative splicing events. The Gene array uses a subset of probes from the Exon array and covers well-annotated transcripts. Like the Exon array, the Gene array allows the investigation of differential expression. The Gene array is also capable of limited alternative splicing analysis. Genechips are available for human, mouse, and rat.
