Coriell Executives Attend Invitation-Only Meeting to Discuss the CPMC™

HHS meeting As leaders aiming to revolutionize the field of personalized medicine, Coriell's President and CEO, Michael Christman, Ph.D., and Executive Vice President and COO, Joseph L. Mintzer, were asked to participate in the invitation-only 2008 National Summit on Personalized Health Care, "Innovation in Health Care Delivery."

Held in Deer Valley, Utah, on October 5-7, 2008, the Health and Human Services (HHS) Summit hosted senior leaders from areas such as science, technology development, pharmaceutical and biotechnology, and healthcare financing with the goal of creating strategies to accelerate the integration of personalized healthcare to clinical practice and healthcare delivery. United States HHS Secretary Michael O. Leavitt and Clayton M. Christensen, D.B.A., of the Harvard Business School, co-chaired the meeting, which sought to explore in depth the key issues, opportunities and challenges that integrating personalized medicine brings to the forefront.

HHS meeting Secretary Leavitt also commissioned Coriell to detail the key facets of the Coriell Personalized Medicine Collaborative™ (CPMC™) in a "white paper." This 10-page technical description of the CPMC™ was presented at the HHS Summit and, furthermore, was included in the Federal HHS 2008 Annual Report, Personalized Heath Care: Pioneers, Partnerships, Progress. To read the paper, visit www.coriell.org.

Coriell's relationship with HHS and Secretary Leavitt began in December 2007, at the official launch of the CPMC™ research study. In January 2008, the Institute hosted top-ranking HHS officials at a roundtable discussion billed as the "Challenges and Solutions in Personalized Medicine." The meeting brought HHS leaders together with scientists, physicians and executives from Coriell, CPMC™ hospital partners, and the CPMC™ Informed Cohort Oversight Board (ICOB). The agenda addressed a range of issues related to personalized medicine, including an overview of federal initiatives and the goals of the CPMC™.
