We have all been touched by disease. A father lost to cancer, or a mother to Alzheimer’s. A sister scarred by breast cancer, or a friend living with heart disease. A child diagnosed with autism. In these moments our thoughts of genomes, stem cells, and DNA are fleeting at most. We are consumed in giving comfort, trying to restore order, or grieving. We are looking for answers to questions like, “Why did this happen?”, “What is next?”, and, “Will they survive this?”
At Coriell, we are also asking these questions. The answers, we believe, are there – coded – in our genome, in our stem cells, in our DNA. We are relentless in our investigation to crack those codes to understand why and how disease happens. We do it so our children and our grandchildren will not lose their father to cancer, their mother to Alzheimer’s, their children to autism.
